Welcome and thank you for joining us on this training for yoga for the postnatal period, such an important time for women’s long term health and well being. We are delighted that you are interested in sharing specifc holistic practices with your students after birth.

This was in a first class 7 weeks after birth. What do you observe in the mum’s back?

Supported feeding positions help mums to release the build up of tension in the neck and shoulders.
Practices with babies are included in the training so that you can show mums relaxed holds and walks that can be fun to do at home.

Welcome to Birthlight

Welcome to our training programme in Birthlight Postnatal Yoga. Yoga is applied to postnatal recovery as an exten- sion of pregnancy yoga, incorporating all the benefits of yoga breathing along with the joy of
movement and the stillness of deep relaxation. You will learn techniques for the practice of yoga primarily for new mothers and also for mothers and babies together. Postnatal yoga is not something done

separately on a yoga mat, but as part of new mothers’ lives while caring for babies. In accordance with this principle, the Birthlight course will cover techniques of breathing, relaxation and gentle yoga movements to be taught to the mothers in many different positions and settings. In this way, our course promotes a truly holistic approach to baby care and parenting.

Birthlight aims to create a friendly environment with lively interaction whilst working closely with each individual student.

We hope you enjoy the course and move on to create your own classes bringing the benefits of postnatal yoga to many families.

About Birthlight

Birthlight is a UK based charitable trust that is dedicated to promoting a sensitive approach to pregnancy, birth and babies. We do this through innovative applications of yoga and practical teachings from many cultures around the world.

Birthlight promotes a holistic approach to birth; integrating body, mind and emotions through the transformations of pregnancy, birth and parenting.

Promoting parents’ and babies’ happy interactions is an important way of contributing to the optimal development of children and enhancing the bonding relationships that are formed at this time.

The Birthlight Philosophy

We aim to promote the greater enjoyment of pregnancy, birth and babies for both parents and their new babies, to teach with awareness and with respect for the individual and to build confidence and trust.

The Birthlight approach is based on the principles of yoga, nurturing a deeper understanding of ourselves and our relationship with others. Our aim is to help pregnant women and both parents and babies, relax together in their shared enjoyment of simple movements with breath awareness. A stable base of trust is formed: parents and babies, from early pregnancy, can engage happily into the journey to creating a new family, forming a deep-rooted foundation of physical and emotional security for their children.

Gentle birthing and parenting of our babies sets the tone for a non-violent upbringing of children and the promotion of greater peace in the world.
