Synopsis
A step-by-step guide to ease pregnancy and child-birth. The fantastic general benefits of yoga are already very well documented, but for a pregnant woman it is the ideal exercise, keeping the body supple without straining and used to relieve pain in labour and ease childbirth. "Yoga for Pregnancy" offers a unique programme of classical yoga technique - breathing, movement and relaxation - which have been specially adapted to suit the needs of each stage of pregnancy - helping to prepare for the birth and for getting back into shape afterwards. Simple step-by-step text and clear photographs show you how to plan yoga sessions and perform the various techniques. Safety has always been given top priority, enabling the reader to work confidently on their own without a teacher. There is also a helpful chapter devoted to labour and birthing positions. No previous experience of yoga is needed, nor any regular exercise, before starting.

Good for beginners, suitable for more experienced., July 18, 2001

Although I had some Yoga experience, I still found this book very helpful. I didn't always bother with the routines, just picking out a few excercises here and there when I felt in need of some relaxation, or only had a few minutes to spare. One of the biggest problems was using the book while practising - it's not very helpful having to stop to check you're doing it right. I found a few of the excercises nigh on impossible to understand, but overall it was well worth the money and it did help me relax and keep supple. The labour preparation routines are particularly helpful for anyone seeking an active birth --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This book provides a home programme of exercises for all stages of pregnancy, you don't need any previous yoga experience. It will keep you fit and relaxed, and help you build up the muscles you will need during the birth. It also suggests labour and birthing positions.
I found this book invaluable for my first pregnancy, it made me feel more in control to know that I was making good preparations for the big event. I definitely felt that the exercises helped me during the birth [of a large baby], minimised the damage to my body, and helped me recover quickly. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
