Dr Amali Lokugamage receives 2015 EMEA award
When obstetrician Amali Lokugamage, also lecturing at University College London Medical School, received one of the 2015 Excellence in Medical Education Awards (EMEA) she commented on her facebook page that she was — feeling blessed. So are we to have Amali as a Trustee of Birthlight. She does not compromise in educating future doctors about evidence (including the lack of it) in obstetrics, about the reasons why doctors fear home births, about aspects of the physiology of pregnancy and birth that are missing from the curriculum, and more… Congratulations from all of us at Birthlight not just on this award but on your intelligence and courage for casting a broader light of science as a woman.
Amali received the award for going the extra mile within the MBBS curriculum and high levels of commitment to students. They valued her bringing my outside interests into my teaching, her problem solving and willingness to help.
Ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in July 2015.
