Birthlight supports local community project Embrace
The Birthlight Trust was very happy to be able to offer an assisted place on our toddler yoga course in Edinburgh to birthlight baby yoga teacher Linda Barrack in support of the 'Embrace' local community project in Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
Early this year Linda was invited to join local charity www.communityfirstlennoxtown.co.uk, to facilitate their Embrace Project. The charity had found there was little provision for the parents of infants, within the immediate locale of Lennoxtown. The holistic gain for those who regularly attend massage and yoga classes with their babies are well documented, so they felt these classes would be a great addition to Community First. The ethos of the Embrace Project is "Embrace Parenthood - Embrace your Baby - Embrace your Community"
Linda's classes at the Embrace project have been an amazing success...
Embrace has been amazing! Massage and yoga definitely helped establish a routine with my daughter in the early days. Its more than a class it's my weekly respite have loved getting to know the mums with babies the same age and the tips we all pass around have been brilliant. My daughter loves playing with people her age while us mums have a well deserved cuppa after class. Highly recommended thanks Linda
My baby daughter and I have been attending Linda's Embrace classes for months now and we love it. On top of learning new skills in baby massage and yoga, we really enjoy meeting up with Linda and our wee group of mums and babies. So important to get that cup of tea, biscuit and a chance to laugh/chat/let off steam about life in general at the end of each session. Recommended.
Excellent project! Myself and my baby have been attending Linda's class and it's a god send. It's great to get out and meet other new mums from the same area and swap tips and have a chat while learning new skills such as baby massage and yoga from Linda. Would highly recommend to every new mum.
I've been attending Embrace with my little boy for around 5 months now and we both love it! I love bonding with my baby during baby massage and as my little one is getting more mobile, he's really started to enjoy the yoga side of things! He loves to "jump the jitters out" as part of one of our weekly songs and loves all the rolling/tumble moves. He giggles away which is lovely to see. Linda's so nice and makes everyone feel comfortable to join in and it's lovely to get a cuppa at the end of class and be able to swap stories/experiences with the other mums. It's reassuring to know we're all experiencing the same dramas!
One of the most worthwhile activities i took part in with my baby. As well as learning baby massage techniques and participating in engaging baby yoga lessons, I became great friends with fellow mums and their babies and was able to relax and bond with my baby at the same time. What an amazing asset to the community of edc Linda and the Embrace project are.

The project team wished to take the project forward into it's second year and wanted to enhance the current facility for their existing families. They wished to be able to retain their families beyond the baby yoga age and take them forward with toddler yoga. Birthlight are happy to help realise this ambition through the subsidised training place.
You can hear Linda discussing the project with Christine, on their Community First Radio show 'Baby Matters'
