Cambridge model of Birthlight collaboration
Twenty years ago I had recently moved to Cambridge and was pregnant with my first son Dylan. I was looking for antenatal classes and I kept hearing about an amazing woman called Françoise. of course when I went to my fist class I realised how lucky I was to have found such a natural and intuitive teacher. this was the beginning of my Birthlight journey.
I began teaching with Francoise and then started my own classes. Over the years the Birthlight community here has grown, some babies we knew are in their teens! As new teachers qualified and some experienced teachers moved to Cambridge there was a possibility that maybe there were too many of us, would we all be able to teach? The answer is yes as we all communicate and support each other. We offer classes at different areas of the city on different days and let each other know about seminars and workshops.
Today in Cambridge we have 8 Birthlight teachers who work closely together under the name "Joyful babies" We provide fertility, pregnancy, postnatal and baby and toddler yoga classes to the local community. All classes are listed on the Joyful website and bookings can be made online. We still work individually but joining together has created a strong Birthlight presence in the city. We cover each others classes and often meet for a coffee and catch up chat. Its been so wonderful to feel supported and work together, worries about competition are dispelled and our classes are very busy. Everyone contributes to the cost of maintaining the website according to the number of bookings they receive. Our classes are all listed on the Birthlight website too.
I would recommend this way of working together and I am very happy it has happened so successfully in Birthlight's home town.
Thanks again Françoise.
